Minor in Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation Studies

Wells School of Music

Students must complete a minimum of six credits of advanced standing coursework in their minor.*

This program is designed primarily for students currently enrolled in a music degree program. Students in other degree programs will be admitted if qualified. Students must have the permission of both their major advisor and the chairperson of the Department of Instrumental Music.  This minor is not available to B.M. in Jazz Performance majors.

ENS 344, AJZ 361, MTC 361, ENS 341, ENS 342, ENS 343, AJZ 362, and MHL 422 are “advanced standing” courses.”  Six (6) credits of advanced standing are required for the Minor in Jazz & Contemporary Improvisation Studies.

Ensembles are variable credit, 0.5-1 credit hour.  The first ensemble each semester is 1 credit.  Additional ensembles are 0.5 credit each.

*Advanced standing coursework is defined as any 300-level course or above and specific 200-level courses identified by the department.
