Courses determined based on transcript and experience.  Transcript must demonstrate passed PDE competencies.  This category is waived for students holding a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) degree.  Depending on the recommendation of the department chair, a candidate may need to take any/all of these courses.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP) proficiency exempts this requirement.

Teacher certification candidates must successfully complete levels 1, 2, and 3 field experiences prior to their student teaching capstone experience.  These field experiences are designed to ensure candidates gain practical, hands-on knowledge and skills in diverse educational settings.  Each candidate will collaborate directly with the Chair or Music Education and Music Therapy Department to determine additional requirements to fulfill the field experience criteria before progressing to Category 4.

Candidates must keep a 3.0 GPA and pass Praxis II (5511 & 5113) for PA teacher certification.

Student Teaching requires current criminal, child abuse, FBI fingerprinting, and TB test clearances by dates required by the Office of Clinical Experiences Candidate Services.
