INS 110. Woodwind Foundations. 1 Credit.
This course was designed for music education majors and presents clarinet, saxophone, and flute instruction, techniques, fundamentals of performance, assessment knowledge and materials necessary to teach woodwind pedagogy to beginners. The mission of this course is consistent with the Music Education Department and curriculum.

INS 120. Brass Foundations. 1 Credit.
This course was designed for music education majors and presents brass instruction, techniques, fundamentals of performance, assessment knowledge and materials necessary to teach brass pedagogy to beginners. INS 130. Percussion Foundations. 1 Credit.
This course was designed for music education majors and presents percussion instruction techniques, fundamentals of performance, assessment knowledge, and materials necessary to teach percussion pedagogy to beginners. INS 140. String Foundations. 1 Credit.
This course was designed for music education majors and presents string instruction, techniques, fundamentals of performance, assessment knowledge and materials necessary to teach string pedagogy to beginners. INS 150. Guitar & Ukulele Foundations. 1 Credit.
This course was designed for music education majors and presents the fundamentals of playing the acoustic guitar and ukulele. Students will learn the basics of rhythm, scales and chords as applied to the performance of acoustic guitar and ukulele. Music styles to be covered include folk, blues, classic rock and contemporary popular. The mission of this course is consistent with the Music Education Department and curriculum.

INS 195. Music Therapy Percussion Techniques. 1 Credit.
In this course, students will learn about non-pitched percussion, pitched percussion, the cultures, instruments, and performance practices from West Africa, Cuba, the Middle East, Brazil (pandeiros, surdos), and the Caribbean. Students will learn how to incorporate these instruments and drumming styles into their music therapy practice and develop rhythmic dictation and improvisation skills.

INS 295. Guitar Class I. 1 Credit.
This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of playing the acoustic guitar. Students with little or no experience will learn the basics of rhythm, scales, and chords as applied to the performance of acoustic guitar. Music styles to be covered include folk, blues, classic rock styles, and contemporary popular tunes. Students will be encouraged to perform in solo and duet settings. Students will also be encouraged to sing as well as play the guitar for their song performances.

INS 296. Guitar Class II. 1 Credit.
Students will learn and perform intermediate guitar skills appropriate for a clinical and/or classroom setting. These guitar skills are essential for music therapy majors as they prepare to use the guitar in clinical settings including practicums and internships. Students should have a basic understanding of the guitar or have already successfully passed INS 295.
Pre / Co requisites: INS 296 requires a prerequisite of INS 295.
